Baixa is a small, mainly agricultural village located on the shady side of the Sierra Aitana. The village is on the slopes of the Sierra, and one of its steep streets has been curiously name Trencacames (´Leg breaker´) due to its steep incline. Despite its location on the coast, Baixa is a typically mountain village. It began as a Moorish farmstead, growing almonds - marcona and ordinary - and olives. Olive oil can be purchased from the cooperative (tel. 96.588.50.27); tasty sausages are also produced.

Olleta (rice mixed with meat and vegetables), Minxos (pizza-like base with fish and vegetables) and pilota de farina amb dacsa Faves sacsades.

The best way to reach this locality is to take the road from Polop to Gudalest and Alcoy. It is located 72 km from Alicante.
