Castell, a village with a population of 510, is located in one of the most remote areas of the province of Alicante. It is one of the least known and far-flung villages of the region, though its natural beauty is certainly worth a visit. Castell is surrounded by mountains and access to it is fairly difficult - which may explain why the village is comparatively unknown. Agriculture is its main economic activity, especially almonds, olives and carob. The village is gradually being transformed in order to provide tourists with a wider range of services. The village is very attractive and surrounded with interesting rock formations and caves.

The sanctuary of Pla de Petracos is one of the best cave painting sites in the Valencia Region. This place was a sanctuary when the paintings were made and was a meeting place and a place of worship for people united by a profound faith in which fertility, fecundity, the agricultural cycle and family links played a large part. This Cultural Asset is located in a splendid landscape. A visit to the site provides you with a magnificent opportunity to enjoy nature in an environment that traditional Mediterranean agricultural practices have barely altered.
Festivals and Events:
Moors and Christians pageants are held from the 14-16 of August; fiestas are held in honour of the Assumption of the Virgin, St Roch and St Anne in mid July. On the 7th and 8th of September a fiesta is held in the Petracos district.
Situation:
Located in the Valle de Pop, it is surrounded by mountains such as the Serrella, la Sierra de Alfaro and Xortá. It can also be reached via Alcoy and Gorga and via Callosa and Bolulla. Situated 97 km from Alicante.
