Rojales is a traditional farming village on the Segura River. In order to optimize agricultural production it concentrates on the growing of citrus fruits, which account for 70 % of the cultivated land. The proximity of the coastal area has led to a trend towards working in the service sector and several residential housing estates have been constructed within the municipal district. This has led to an improvement in Rojales´ infrastructure and the town now has a multi-sports hall and a Municipal Theatre. Various rundown areas have also renovated, for example, the Barrio de las Cuevas has now become a centre for the arts and crafts.
