La Vila is the historical and administrative capital of the Marina Baixa; its economy depends both on shallow-water and deep-sea fishing. The town´s relationship with the sea has been a determining factor in its history and culture and the town´s overseas trade has produced La Vila´s other typical industry: chocolate. La Vila has preserved many delightful features such as its afternoon fish auction and its colourful façades whose purpose was to ensure that sailors could see their houses from afar. The old walled town centre is a good place to stop and wander about. La Vila has 3.5 km of beaches, of note amongst these is the Centro beach, where the famous Moorish landing is celebrated and El Paradís beach. These are the best beaches, though there are other beaches such as the Xarco beach with a watchtower and the Torres beach with an attractive Roman/funereal Hercules tower. There is also a small cove, called Racó Conill, which is used for diving and naturism. The Bol Nou and la Caleta coves with their transparent water are also worth mentioning.

Gastronomy: Caldero (fish stew), Arrós amb Llampuga, Arrós amb ceba i carabassa, Pebrereta and arrós amb espinacs are some of the local dishes. Most of the restaurants in La Vila are located in the area of the beach and the port.

Art: Manufacturing of nets and chocolate.

Monuments: Old town centre and colourful façades, tower, old walls and Roman bridges. Hercules tower and Gothic/Catalan church.

Name of Councillor: María del Rosario Escrig Llinares

Festivals and Events: Major fiestas are held at the end of July in honour of St Martha and St James, with a famous landing of Moors. On the 16th of July, a procession is held at sea in honour of the Virgin del Carmen. A pilgrimage and a Fair are organized in honour of St Isidore in May. In September there is a pilgrimage in honour of the Archangel St Michael.

Situation: This is the historical capital of the Marina Baixa and is easily reached, as it is located on the N-332 and there is an exit off the A-7. The narrow-gauge railroad from Alicante to Dénia stops in La Vila. It is located 32 km from Alicante and 8 km from Benidorm.

Tour of the town: Reservoir of the Amadorio River and watchtowers.

Sports: Walking and climbing. Potholing.
