A unique proposal that invites you to discover the contrasting landscapes, environments and culture of the province of Alicante and enables you to visit the interesting historical remains, discover myths and legends and get to know different traditions, architecture, customs, local cuisine and handicraft of this privileged province.
Beaches with fine sand, cliffs, miles of dunes and places of great environmental and scenic value such as El Montgó Natural Park, the Carrascal de la Font Roja Natural Park, the Serra de Mariola Natural Park, the Hondo Natural Park and La Mata-Torrevieja Natural Park are part of our route.
Throughout the route we will climb emblematic peaks such as the Aitana Peak (1.558 m), the roof of the province of Alicante and Montcabrer (1.339 m), we will go through a great variety of landscapes, wild areas with almond and olive groves, fertile orchards and vineyards, watercourses, ravines, areas of dense pine forest and lush vegetation, steep slopes and gaping chasms, lagoons, salt flats, to finally end the route in a tranquil journey beside the river Segura.
We will see how the inhabitants of each district have learnt to adapt to the environment and take advantage of the natural resources by means of traditional rural architecture such as lime furnaces, wells, watermills, irrigation ditches, ice pits and waterwheels.
With regard to the flora and fauna we will also notice changes as we travel along the route. In mountainous areas we will find dense pine forests, aromatic and medicinal herbs, birds of prey such as eagles, falcons, vultures and owls, reptiles and mammals such as wild boar, mountain goats, wildcats and squirrels. In coastal areas, rivers and wetlands we can highlight grasslands, reeds, rushes and vegetation that has adapted to saline soils, areas inhabited by amphibians, reptiles and countless species of water birds such as flamingos, grey herons, grebes, stilts, coots and many others.
