Bordering on the province of Murcia, Algueña is located near to the Reclot and Acayat Sierras, and only became independent in 1934. This is a typical farming village dedicated to the growing of vines and the production of oil and almonds. It forms part of the area whose wines are entitled to use the Denominación de Origen (guarantee of origin) label of the province of Alicante, and the village also produces spirits and works made of marble.
Gastronomy:
Cocido con pelotas (stew with minced meat wrapped in cabbage leaves), All y Oli (oil and garlic mayonnaise), Gazpacho(cold tomato soup) with chicken, rabbit and snails, and rice with rabbit are some of the local dishes.

Handmade bobbin lace.

Situation:
The village can be reached both from Pinoso and from Novelda; the road to Pinoso passes through the salt production area. 50 km from Alicante and 89 km from Benidorm.
