The original name of this village was Mompot. It became Monforte to which ´del Cid´ was added to differentiate it from Monforte de Lemos - there is a sierra named El Cid located in the vicinity. The village has a typically Moorish appearance, with a labyrinth of concentric streets around an ancient Mosque that today is the Parish Church. The village was a ´Realengo´ estate, meaning it was Crown property. The main economic activity of the village is agriculture and the bagged grapes it produces belong to the ´denominación de origen´. There are also distilleries that produce spirits. The Ayuntamiento contains two Iberian sculptures.
