Rafol de Almunia is the historical capital of the area of the Marina Alta known as the Rectoría and formed by Ráfol de Almunia, Benimeli, Sanet y Negrals, Sagra and Tormos. Ráfol de Almunia is the capital as, of the five villages, it is the only one with a church. The lord of the area, the Marquis of Almunia, created the village in 1535 as a reaction against the region´s Muslim inhabitants. Ráfol de Almunia is a small village with 369 inhabitants who are mostly involved in growing citrus fruits on the sunny side of the Sierra Segaria.

Paella, Putxero (stew).
Monuments:
Church of St Francesc opposite which is located an unusual Modernist house. Entering the village from Sagra there is an ancient noble coat of arms. There are beautiful ancient houses throughout the village.
Festivals and Events:
Fiestas in honour of St Francis de Paula and the Blessed Virgin are held from the 13-20 of August with processions and float parades. Fiestas in honour of the Sacred Heart are held in June.
Situation:
The village can be reached from Ondara and Beniarbeig. Situated 90 km from Alicante and 44 km from Benidorm.

Summit of the Sierra Segaria. Font de Ramón, Cadireta del Rey Moro and the Racó Mortins.
