The Valley of the Gallinera groups together a series of small villages: Benirrama, Benialí, Benisivá, Benitaia, La Carroja, Alpatró, Llombai and Benisili. Benialí is the capital of the valley. These villages are situated in a line along the valley formed by the Gallinera watercourse, which leads to the Alcalá Valley, and boxed in by the Les Solanes, Almirante and Foradá Sierras. They are all small farming villages producing almonds, olives and cherries and are entitled to use the ´denominación de origen´(guarantee of origin) label. Some of these small villages are in danger of disappearing; this is the case of Llombai, which we pass through on the road from Alcoy to Pego.
Gastronomy:
Rice dishes and sausages are some of the local dishes.
Monuments:
Ruins of a 17th-century convent located 5 minutes away from Benitaia, remains of a Moorish fort known as the ´Castle of Benissili´. In Benirrama there is a castle, which was extremely important during the period of Jaime I. Alpatró and Benialí are the villages with the best urban rural structure.
