Provincial Tourist Board of the Costa Blanca.

Introduction

The Provincial Tourist Board of the Costa Blanca is an autonomous organization, part of the Alicante Provincial Council. It has been created to oversee the tourism sector and has been given the legislative powers for this purpose. The organization has a public legal status and the full legal capacity to accomplish its aims.

How does it work?

Those responsible for the governing and administration of the Board are: the Chairman, the Vice-chairman and the Board of Directors.

The Board also includes an organization entitled the Provincial Tourism Council, which has a consultative, informative and advisory role in relation to tourist issues; in addition to the board members, this organization includes members of business organizations, associations within the sector, professionals and worker’s representatives

Objetives of the Board:

• To promote the active presence of the Costa Blanca on the tourist market.
• To promote internal and external tourism to the province of Alicante.
• To publish and distribute material directed towards the promotion of tourism.
• To work with all types of public and private entities whose aims are linked to the aims of the Board.
• To establish exchanges with all types of institutions of a tourist nature.
• To carry out actions related to the research, study and development of the tourist phenomenon.
• To participate in events related to tourism organized by other entities.
• To encourage the development of tourism for all social classes.
• To support and promote the creation of cultural and recreational installations.
• To promote civic awareness campaigns.
• To provide information and carry out reservations for the tourist services of the Costa Blanca.
• To award grants and other types of assistance to local entities and corporations, and non-profit private or public entities or institutions.
• To enter into collaboration agreements with any public or private entity.
• To provide grants for investments or activities associated with the aims of the Board and relating to the promotion of quality, training, innovation and modernization of the tourism sector.
• To offer suggestions to the Provincial Council on the setting up of companies and to hold, either temporary or permanently, a share in the capital of any such company that contributes to the accomplishment of the aims of Board.

Agreements,sponsorship and most relevant collaboration :

The Provincial Tourist Board of the Costa Blanca has entered into a number of agreements with various entities for the purpose of carrying out joint actions to promote tourism in the area of Alicante.

Of particular note, due to its significance, is the Agreement with the Commercial, Industrial and Shipping Chamber of Alicante for joint commercial and tourism missions.

Other agreements include those with AENA (the company that manages Spanish airports), and the largest air companies, both nationally and internationally, such as Iberia and Transvia amongst others. The Board has also agreed to collaborate with the railways of the Generalitat Valenciana.

There are also sponsorship agreements for sporting events, such as the Alicante multinational company Kelme who sponsor the Kelme cycling team – Costa Blanca. They also sponsor other types of activities such as sailing.

There are also collaborations with the official tourism schools that train new professionals for the sector.

Agreements with associations in the tourism sector: the Board has entered into a number of agreements to participate in the extension and modernization of installations, and distribution of tourist amenities. Amongst this type of agreement those with HOSBEC (association of hoteliers of Benidorm and the region) and the Association of Golf Courses are of particular note.
