Fiestas Patronales y de Moros y Cristianos en honor a San Francisco de Asís (Crevillent)
The festivities of Moors and Christians in Crevillente have been declared of National Tourist Interest and are framed within the major celebrations of Crevillente, they are celebrated in honor of their patron, Saint Francisco de Asis.
The main festivals take place during several days and generally, on the first weekend of October, the ones of Moors and Christians are celebrated, which include various acts that start on Friday and finish the next Monday.
In 2019 they will be
celebrated from October 5th to October 7th.
What makes this festivity particularly original are its historical character grounds, which are manifested in the names of "las comparsas" (groups of people that form de Moors and Christians armies) and especially in their "Embajadas" (Missions), which have been declared as being an Asset of Intangible Local Relevance, and are based on an event occurred in Crevillent on the XIII century. The fact that there are no winners or losers in the battle celebrated between Moors and Christians, proves its originality, constituting a strong symbol of fraternity and tolerance between both communities. It is worth mentioning that the participation of women in the parades is very important.
